How to File Your 2018 Taxes

Did you forget to file your 2018 taxes?

Whatever the situation may be, when it comes to filing a forgotten tax return, stress usually rears it’s head. We’re here to help.

If you haven’t filed your 2018 tax return as yet, you may be confused why the 1040 form looks different.

Here’s what you need to know

The following tax deadlines have already passed.

  • January 28, 2019 – the start of the tax season
  • January 31, 2019 – the deadline for employers to issue income statements such as your W-2 statement
    The Marketplace must also issue you a mandatory Form 1095-A by January 31 to fill out Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit)
  • April 15, 2019 was the tax deadline for your 2018 tax return and the last day to claim your 2015 refund
  • April 17 was the tax deadline for taxpayers who live in Maine or Massachusetts due to Patriots’ Day and Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia

You will need to be informed on the updated on the new Form 1040 for your 2018 taxes. Due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, there have been extensive changes to the current tax code regarding tax brackets, credits, itemized deductions, and phase-out thresholds.

Getting your W-2 form

If you lost your W-2 form, you can do two of the following:

  1. Contact your employer for your W-2 statement
  2. Request a Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS online

Filing your 2018 Taxes
